Bump. I'm going to be going to this, is anyone else?
ICC Public Forum - Birmingham - Sat 13th Sept
I thought the meeting went really well. We started with an expression of solidarity with the statement of the KRAS on the Georgian war and quickly went on to discuss the economic crisis in some considerable depth with reference to the financial crisis and the nature of growth in China. The final part of the meeting was taken up with questions about the impact of all this on the working class and it's ability to fight back. There were varying degrees of optimism with some thinking this would push things in a positive direction. Others felt more negatively, citing examples of situations where it would be imagined that workers would struggle but haven't. There was also some discussion about the changing nature of the working class: the loss of heavy industry, the decline of manufacturing and the loss of some of the most traditionally combative sectors of proletariat; the shift into temporary, part-time work; the break-up of working class communities, etc. and how this impacted on the revolutionary capacity of the class.
All-in-all, a wide range of topics, discussed in a fraternal manner with disagreements and questions being tackled in a very open, constructive way. It was worth the 7.5 hours on the train to get there and back!

The ICC will be holding a public forum in Birmingham...
Date: Saturday 13th September, from 2pm to 5pm
Subject: The perspective for international class struggle
Location: FoE Warehouse, 54a Allison Street, Digbeth, Birmingham.
There will be a brief presentation from the ICC followed by several hours of open discussion. We will probably also discuss the situation in Georgia and the deepening of the economic crisis. All welcome.
