Just got a new laptop so I'm leaving most of the music on my old computer behind. Any recommendations for good albums to download. I'm looking at John. here mostly.

not really, didn't you listen to that mix?

john. could you list the more band-like electropunk/clash whatever rather than the housey stuff? That first mix i got off you was full of em, are they generally bands, or just guitar players and vocalists put together for tracks?

some bands i have enjoyed recently anyway:

The Knife - all amazing, any album

Bloc Party

Arcade Fire

KMFDM

Sigur Ros

all well known and easy to find smile

currently i'd recommend kaki king - 'until we felt red'. experimental acoustic guitar madness from scary yet foxy lesbian newyorker. ranges from nicey-nicey plinky-plonk to nearly godspeed-esque. maybe a bit folky though.

If you happen to like old-school soul, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings

first mix... you mean the one aaages ago with the shit mixing? grin

I don't get what you mean "nads of just guitar players and vocalists put together for tracks"?

gdid and tacks... I don't really do albums very much, and I spose I mostly listen to producers stuff. but on a bands/band-type front, i listed some electroclash/electro-indie bands here:
http://libcom.org/forums/libcommunity/trouble-last-fm

so in addition to that, trying to think of some more, leaving out electro/producer stuff, not all of this is new, some of it is:
big face
death from above 1979*
sportsday megaphone
the black ghosts
feist
chromeo
muscles
the whip
new young pony club
Azzido da Bass
LCD Soundsystem
Does It Offend You Yeah? *
Art Brut
thieves like us
robots in disguise
css
bonde do role
buraka som sistema, though i don't really like baile funk...

some of that is amazing electropunk - marked * for tacks, some is stuff i thought gdid might like, like feist, sportsday megaphone. plus other similar bits

Album wise you gotta get daft punk alive 2007. and watch some vids on youtube, coachella maybe.

Aphex twin, I usually buy a couple to support his work but downloading for free is prob. best as paying around 15 pounds is steep for a 30 min long album.

High Contrasts new album is great to.

I can see why arcade fire wouldn't be particularly exciting, if i hadn't heard 'Lies' first out of all their stuff i wouldn;t be interested. I liked Lies so much i took the time to digest their other stuff.

can someone please slag off arab strap, cos that is a band i am not willing to take any criticism of. The others have been thrown in, in a general round - up of recent faves.

What's wrong with Arab Strap?
