Admin - The last film thread grew into a 35 page beast, and can be viewed here in the archive

This thread is for telling people the last film you watched, and how was it!

Just saw Zatoichi (2003). Zatoichi is a fucking amazing movie for many reasons but I don't know what level of spoilering is expected here.

ah, that's the kitano one. excellent film, in fact i think i prefer it to the classic shintaro katsu zatoichi's (all 26 or however many of them). but then kitano is a living legend.

Whilst Takeshi Kitano is pretty fucking cool (in this film and elsewhere), nothing quite beats the mass village samba/tapdancing finale. Blood, blood, transgendered geisha assasin (who isn't just there to be the butt of a string of bad jokes), blood, limbs flying, blood, machismo, tapdancing. I mean it's the perfect martial arts film.

just watched Saw last night, fuckin brilliant. very interested in the way in which the murderer appears as a gruesome moral agent, like in Seven, punishing people for their failings, and in this case, making the people who survive value what they have in life. Also the snuff movie thing, very interesting, reminded me of that game Manhunt.

there's a film i remember watching part of, but i can't remember its name. it's reeeeeeeeally long and it's basically just pictures and music, like, people getting off the tube, and factories and sunsets and stuff like that

it was wicked, whatever it was

anyone got the faintest idea of what i'm talking about?

the name of it sounded kind of long and crazy, like 'zakathaweralapischaranticxioklanpa'

10 April, 2006 - 11:44

yes dear wink

10 April, 2006 - 13:18

oh i see, you're suggesting i'm somehow crazy and i need a straitjacket to stop me from eating your faces off

very funny roll eyes

tongue

now, seriously, anyone seen aforementioned film?

10 April, 2006 - 13:46

unless you've got the name completely wrong and you're thinking of 'bodysong' (i don't think you are by the sound of it), then i haven't a clue (hence the cheap gag wink ).

12 April, 2006 - 15:52

"Invisible Children"--Great film about child soldiers in the Ugandan civil war.

14 April, 2006 - 20:11

Bullworth - damn fine

14 April, 2006 - 23:43

Ghostbusters, its never quite as good as when you were a kid, but still worth it. I did get bored and fuck off the last half hour to see you guys, theres 15 mins left, might pop down to see marshmellow man.

edit: I did. Good stuff

Aw i just saw "Fire" again, this Indian film that pissed off every hindu nationalist ever and made them go round burning down cinemas and shit. It was really really great.

The film, that is, not the nationalist violence.

because i haven't seen once upon a time in china? i've seen hardly any jet li films really, there's one called red dragon i think which is basically a chinese rip off of the lonewolf and cub series. only rubbish. hence unleashed is the second best jet li movie i've seen. and it is good, it has cartoon gangsters AND kung fu, in one movie. what more do you want?

Ghostbusters, which was balls, though great as a kid

Tried to watch Jules et Jim, and Les Amants du Pont Neuf but the fucking video picture at the bottom was fucked so I couldn't read the subtitles, aargh! And Les Amants started off looking great, and I <3 juliet binoche. Not as much as Irene Jacob or Virginie Ledoyen but still.

If anyone has on dvd/tape that works and can lend I'd be very grateful!
