Yo, on Cuban anarchism there is one main text - Cuban Anarchism: The history of a movement - Frank Fernandez
It's an extended version of another text, Cuba - The Anarchists and Liberty. They're both here:

As for Cuba now, it looks like they're just handing over to his brother. The Channel 4 analyst last night was saying economic reforms look likely but political ones not (quelle fucking surprise...). A condition of the US recognising Cuba is that both Fidel + his brother renounce power.

but we know all about US statesmens' grasp of geography, so i wouldn't hold your breath for recognition
seriously though, does anyone know if there's any kind of (potentially) independent working class organisation in cuba? or are we just gonna get another smooth 'transition' to crony-capitalism (from, er, crony-state-capitalism)?
I doubt cubans will be willing to give up their healthcare to the market anytime soon even in return for token 'democratic' niceties like getting to elect their dictator every 5 years.
There were riots in the 90s when the US started turning the screws by upping the embargo, and I read somewhere that the 'market' reforms introduced then were basically just formalising, and attempting to control, something that had already happened. I don't know how much organisation these reflected, but there's certainly a willingness amongst people in Cuba to stand up for themselves. It's going to be very interesting indeed, especially given that Raoul Castro ain't much younger than his brother and can't be expected to last long even if he does manage a transition.
Thanks all, I'll look into those references. If Castro is half fucked at 80 his bro can't be far behind in his late 70s. Hopefully something positive is on the horizon and libertarian worker's sentiment hasn't been totally anihilated.

This cracked me up hard. Will that dolphin shit ever go away? Can someone give me a quote from his diaries? I gotta get to the bottom of this.

It is truly messed up:
I was hitting the Venezuelan rum hard with my comrade Alberto. A veil of softness came down upon my visions as we walked to the Tucuxi village, the red setting sun mingling sensuously with green Amazonian jungle. The young, bare-chested Tucuxi by, Arauquito, told us of how the Yanqui Imperialists came and took the women of the village. No one knows what became of them. We drank more rum, and as night fell all became a blur. Arauquito took us to the river, where the dolphins who became their lovers dwelled. Glances of soft, grey flesh pierced the water, reflecting the moonlight; flicks of spray were dashed by tails.
They were flirting with us, Arauquito, now naked, explained. The water was warm, it washed over me and Alberto like the silk of a woman's nightgown. I thought of Arauquito and the Imperialists who took his woman, as a dolphin brushed against my skin. Arauquito, already thrashing in the water, entwined with a deep grey figure, slowed and looked across at me. Sensing my apprehension, he nodded his permission.
I stripped off my shorts, and gently pulled my aquatic lover into the shallows until she was lying on her side. Her belly facing towards me, half submerged in the water. I nestled myself belly to belly against her, and pressed my member against her sex. She immediately arched her body against mine, and took me inside her body, initiating a quick series of muscular contractions with her muscles. I wrapped my left arm around her body and just held her close while she manipulated me inside her body, until I climaxed barely 2 minutes later. Surprisingly, her body also shuddered against mine, and we spent the next 5 or so minutes just lying together in the shallows, holding each other, enjoying our company and revelling in the fact that we had shared something special together, something very few people can claim to have done, and something the Yanqui running dogs can never take away from us...
Hi
I found this wiki entry very interesting...

Castro is a crook, but on the scale of human evil, Gloria Estefan ranks higher.

There's plenty of news on how crook Castro is. He's gonna go sooner or later and Cuba's either gonna get a 'Communist' appointed heir; or possibly a shake up and capitalism's special brand of 'democracy'. (I hate our terms being used like this). I read on a few posts (in between Che and the dolphin) that anarchist syndicates had a lot to do with the initial Cuban revolution. I have to admit ignorance of this fact and would appreciate an overview and maybe a few suggested readings. But more importantly, what shape is the movement in now and could it feasibly take the opportunity of a political transition to re-assert itself?
(P.S. I'm not adverse to more Che and the dolphin debate either).
