THE EIGHT GOALS

1 Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2 Achieve universal primary education
3 Promote gender equality and empower women
4 Reduce child mortality
5 Improve maternal health
6 Combat HIV/Aids, malaria, and other diseases
7 Ensure environmental sustainability
8 Develop a global partnership for development

This man is an idiot. Many of these would require some sort of national and international upheaval, not just a local social project. #3, for example, is also toothless and at this point I don't see gender equality catching on in rural Pakistan, where religious patriarchy can be so entrenched that women actually aren't allowed outside the house once they are married. And what the fuck is 8 on about?

In many areas of Pakistan, and indeed South Asia and the Middle East healthcare is effectively non-existant. Education is left to the local clergy, and agrictulture is the only form of employment. So hopefully the people living in this village might enjoy some short term benefits. What does this imply to the people living in surrounding villages, though? If you're lucky enough to have a rich and benevolent landlord you shall get the things your government can't provide?

Anyway, why not just ask the villagers how they want him to improve their lives rather than enforcing some vague crap which didn't involve any of them?
