Hi folks,

Kate, one of our exec and Part time Ethics and Social Justice Officer of
the Union is holding an emergency meeting in UNION NORTH RECEPTION on
WEDNESDAY at 6 PM. The purpose of this is that AWE (Atomic Weapon
Establishment) are giving a careers talk on Tues 14th and we would like to
discuss potential protest methods with u to show that we feel that it is
an outrage that the University is promoting this kind of career to its
students when in fact it is destructive and wrong. If cannot attend but
want to be kept posted then please let me know.

Andrew
Secretary

when and where is the meeting on monday being held for organising this?

13 November, 2006 - 09:54

it's at 5pm today (monday) in the lounge by the office in union north

unfortunately amnesty are being utter cocks so the previously quite well laid plans for tomorrow (day) are now a bit ruined

am gonna suggest:
i) try and get kate (union rep) to do some sort of students union motion then wave that idignantly at the careers service until they agree not to invite arms companies, purveyors of wma and (for good measure?) oil companies onto campus (as chris says they already agreed once)

ii) an e-mail action? distribute a template e-mail & e-mail of director of careers serivce so people can e-mail him/her expressing displeasure at awe

would anyone in principle be up for helping me flyer during the day tomorrow? if so could you e-mail or text me (chris has both contact details) some point today.

we were gonna have the stall outside the library to do a petition with amnesty. but after telling us last week they were up for that they're now 'worried they're going to alienate their membership'. ffs.

scratch that - the stall is going ahead tomorrow

me & beth will be there from 11

i have class in the afternoon so have to leave. if any of you can head down to help out (as well as sign the petition) during the day and/or can get anyone else you know to that would be great.

the actual action is tomorrow night.

well i think that went rather well

and i got an e-mail from careers service last night arguing that while they had no policy regarding who they invited to careers fairs, this isn't a problem because their only imperative is to provide as wide a range of options to students as possbile

sent an e-mail back last night, no reply as of yet

saw filip earlier who suggested contacting them as some fake company/organisation who do something really shitty and seeing what their reaction is

this is all very promising

I was at Warwick a while back. In about 1999 (i think) we managed to infiltrate an esso careers presentation and just stood up and started reading out things about climate change and human rights abuses, they ended up calling the whole thing off and one of their presentation people started crying cos she was a member of amnesty.... bless...

We also got up onto the roof with a banner when the MoD came. Those were the days.....
